Backwoods Creek

I'm spending the week at Backwoods Creek
there's plenty good animals hangin' 'round
we will be there with burrs in our hair
loosing our heads in the primitive sound

I'm keeping my mind simple and free
don't want to get stung by a bumbley bee
there's too many things that I'm dying to see

Outlaw Tim, he's up on a limb
smoking a pipe with a brother from Rice
Elbow James is making up games
rolling the dice with a bucket of mice

in the back yard they're howling the blues
with a heart broken bard in his worn out shoes
I wish I could give him some comforting news

I could stay here the rest of the year
at least until I've cleaned out my soul
the air here is clear, the water so near
it won't take no heavy toll

you can jump on my back, but cut me some slack
I just done carried a whole ton a stone
but I won't complain if you give me that cane
just make sure that it's carved from a dinosaur bone

there ain't nothin' worse than a bed full of fleas
when you're tryin' to sleep in a hundred degrees
with the lingering smell of a pot of burnt peas

I'm feeling some space, but I can't take your place
I gotta jump deep down in my mind
but there'll be plenty of times if you got enough dimes
just don't fall too far behind

and if you should freak down there at the creek
ride the tide 'til you've crested the peak
and while you're up there try plugging' that leak

I could stay here the rest of the year
at least until I've cleaned out my soul
all I need is my name, and there's plenty of game
it won't take no heavy toll
it won't take no heavy toll
